Dear Beloved Brethren, today we will talk about a topic that many of us across the world ignore, “ THE WILL OF GOD IN OUR LIVES.” Many of us throughout our lives daily deviate from God’s will and this is because we forget or deliberately do not want to seek His face before taking certain actions. Our prayers have turned to wishful speeches rather than a daily communion with God as a form of friendship to enhance our relationship with Him. We watch too many magic movies and fairytales and think God has a magic wand, that when it is swung then we just get what we want. A lot of people have left God because they are tired of not having their wishes comes true. This is why seeing God as a Father makes more sense; you cannot leave your father because he refused to buy you vanilla ice cream when He already bought you candy, chocolate ice cream and a few biscuits a few hours ago. You as a child will cry as much as you want but your father who knows the best for you and knows that you already had so much sugar in one day will tell you, No! you cannot have it but that will not stop Him from being your father. When children make requests to their fathers it is normally in this form, Daddy can I have vanilla ice cream as well, not daddy give me vanilla ice cream, you must give me vanilla ice cream.
Therefore, prayer is an act of allowing God to interfere in your affairs knowing fully well that your affairs are matched with His will. As a Christian, we have to be careful of what we ask in our prayer because we desire so many things in our lives that might be contrary to God’s will for our life. Alright, let’s look at our vanilla ice cream example, when we ask our earthly fathers to buy us ice cream in a rude way, we should not expect a kind answer our after just having so many good things like candy, biscuits and chocolate ice cream then we go on to say dad you must get me vanilla ice cream as well without even saying thank you for the previous things he gave us. We do not expect our earthly fathers to be very pleased with such a request and even though He has the means to get it for you, he wouldn’t and he might give you a harsh warning or even teach you a bitter lesson.
Let look at how our Godly Father dealt with almost the same kind of issue like our vanilla ice cream example. I will divide this example into the already given; analogous with chocolate ice cream, biscuits and candy, then the request, the reaction and the reason.
The Israelites had such a hard heart, but still, God granted them forgiveness, God was so patient with them and did everything to please them, yet they did not recognise this. They spent their lives complaining about God.
God brought them out of the land of slavery (Egypt) to free them from suffering, and to serve the Lord. They were in a tough situation when they were in a dessert and they had no food, God then gave them food(Manna) and then they still complained it was not like the food they ate in Egypt that they wanted to go back to Egypt. Numbers 11:4 (Then the foreign rabble who were travelling with the Israelites began to crave the good things of Egypt. And the people of Israel also began to complain. “Oh, for some meat!” they exclaimed). We can see God had given them freedom from the Egyptians and Manna from heaven.
“We remember the fish we used to eat for free in Egypt. And we had all the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic we wanted. But now our appetites are gone. All we ever see is this manna!”
The father then in His Mercies and as an act of discipline decided to allow them to eat meat. You see that’s a father there, he had the means and was wise enough that I cannot keep talking to this people anymore, they will just keep crying and never want tp understand my reason. In this case, it was not even the women crying it was the men crying in front of their tent for meat and not for food because they had food (Numbers 11:10). God granted them their desires and then they ate meat for a month such that they got disgusted by it, they vomited it violently and even from their nostrils.
“For you have rejected the LORD, who is here among you, and you have whined to him, saying, “Why did we ever leave Egypt?” The reason might not have been because they asked for meat but the way they asked. They said they had better food in Egypt and they asked why did you bring us out of Egypt. The fact is that God might have given them meat but they asked in a bad manner, not even recognising what he had done for them and not even bothering to know why God had not even given them meat all the while. They just were out to murmur and whine (Numbers 11:1).
I do not know how manna might have tasted but maybe it was not a very pleasant food. However, give thanks for the little you have and God will multiply it. Jesus, when He fed the 5,000 gave thanks for 5 loaves and two fishes and there, was surplus for everyone (Matthew 14:13-21). Sometimes, it is not about your request being bad but for the fact you have not thanked God for what you already have.
They had their hearts so hardened that they did not realise that God’s will was to make them a holy and God-fearing people.
Many of us sometimes act like the Israelites. We want so many things: cars, money, husband or wife, and sometimes we want to go back to the world of sin because we think that our Father in Heaven is not doing anything in our lives or that we are doing nothing for our Father in Heaven. Sometimes the promise land seems unrealistic and Egypt feels better. On the route to eternal life you have to work and sometimes it might not be smooth (the way you wanted it our the way you anticipated) but by faith and belief in God’s word you will get there, that is why James in James 2:17 said, “faith without work is dead”. Let us not let desires of this word stutter us or make us weaker or get our Father angry. He has given us a lot of things already and the fact you can read this post should put joy in your heart because you are alive. What about giving us His dear son. He has made the sacrifices for your sake, He has done the big things so the small things He will do but have faith and utmost belief in the big things He has done. (Matthew 6:33) God’s will is His general kingdom movement which will aid your personal kingdom movement, so seek it first.
We desire to have and to know so many things of the world, things without benefits and we conform to this without consulting God and gradually we deviate from the ways of God, it because we still focus on our desires, that is why, Paul in Romans 12:2, reminds us,
“ And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
And in 1 Thessalonians 4:7
“For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.”
IT CAN BE DONE IN THE RIGHT WAY
In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesying. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. (1 Thessalonians 5: 18-22).
Maybe this is not the perfect way but some of these things I believe should be entailed in the perfect way:
- Knowing and Having a Strong Belief in God’s plan for your Life: When you know God’s plan for your life then you will know what to ask. If you are working according to God’s plan then He will provide you with the more than enough. (Jeremiah 29:11, Philippians 4:19). One question one should ask from Numbers 11 is what made them rumble in the first place. They knew where they were going, they knew it will be a fertile ground, a good ground, the problem might have been they thought if the road to this place is this rough then what will this place be like, maybe it might be worse. They might have had doubts that Egypt will be better than this so called promise land. They might have thought they will never eat meat again since on the way to this land there were starved of meat. Matthew 11:22-23.
- Acknowledge your sins and shortcomings
- Remember to Thank Him for the Things He has done.
- Make your request known unto God, Philippians 4:6-7 (Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.)
Jesus is coming back, we need to live and know what God’s will is for our lives, above all to pray and meditate on his word, because we all want to be saved. BEWARE OF THE THINGS THAT YOU DESIRE, not everything in the sight of God is good. May our God bless us every day and above all have mercy on us. Always acknowledge your sins to God, this is also crucial. And in this world, we will always have problems, but always remember that God is the Solution, he has overcome the world and we are overcomers, the things of the world will never be better than the things of God. If we simply want the things of God, you will see all the good things that God have for us.Always remember in the greater love that God have for us, even though we always sin.

- Pray and ask God not to be like the Hebrew people, ask God to teach you to recognise him in your life.
- Ask God to take away the heart of stone and if He already did thank Him for it.
- Recognise God in everything you do, because for us Christians everything comes from God, everything is God’s blessing, nothing happens by chance in the life of the Christian.
- Ask Him to reveal His will for your life so as to guide you in prayer.
