Last week we introduced the idea of God being everything and how He is important to life as we already know He is life (John 14:6).  We also looked at the concept of infinity and how this relates to Him and how it is the best word I can come up with to describe His might, even though He is more than that. This week I will look into a few biblical paradoxes I have come to understand better by mathematically exploring the term “infinity”. As you read on note that, I might refer to man as something, God as infinity and nothing is simply the absence of God but zero (0) might be used. Also, I will need your thinking hat and your mathematics cap, maybe for a few minutes. Thanks and God Bless as you read on!

Eccl 3:11

Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from the beginning to the end.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Eternity means infinite or unending time. I believe in some translations the phrase everlasting life is used. Therefore, if God is the source of infinite time and everlasting life, our longing taste for infiniteness is solved in Christ.

My question now is, what does it take to solve a long lasting problem? I believe it should be a long lasting solution. A reoccurring problem cannot be solved by a temporary fix. A temporary fix is only required pending a permanent solution, of which Christ is the permanent solution to our long lasting problem (Thirst for eternity). Your biggest want is to keep your biggest need (When you finally get it), and your biggest fear is to lose your biggest need, again when you have it. Man’s biggest want is to keep life forever as life is the biggest need of man, the fear of losing that need is death. There have been some interesting right ups where we dealt with the topic of death in the Greatest Certainty in Life has a cure in Jesus Part 1 and 2 ( and ( )

God is everything, He is not limited to a particular something or anything, He is totally independent of anything but He is the brain behind everything. As has been explained everything is independent of anything (i.e if I have everything why will I need anything), nothing is dependent on something (If I have nothing then I obviously want something) but what is something dependent on? You will agree with me that it depends on what you already have or rather what that “something” might be, whether I feel what I have is sufficient for me or not. I will use the mathematical expressions for infinity to explain Old and New Testaments, Faith and Love as it has helped me understand these terms even better.

 The Old and New Testaments

 Infinity =(f)/0

 (f) really is just any number, we already know that zero (0) is just an approximation of something that is really small. In basic mathematics, this equation will yield a mathematical error but for those who have done some higher mathematics they will know this is absolutely right. If in doubt you can kindly ask Mr. google, I have no doubt that he knows the answer.

Why this equation, How does it even relate to the old testament and the new, why am I using an equation to talk about the old testament and the new., what is he up to. Am sure these and more are some of the questions on your mind. As Christians it is always hard to explain God to our atheist friends, It is almost like explaining something that is unexplainable, that is because you see something they cannot see.  it has always helped me to use something they know and can understand in explaining God to them and I feel it will be helpful in sharing this with others.

 1 Corinthians 9:20-22

To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.  I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

God has shown Himself in everything so that we can see Him in everything and show others who can’t see Him how to find Him in things they can see. Without further ado and the reasons hopefully understood we can jump back to the equation.

 How do nothing, something and everything correlate?

 Genesis 3:8

They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees and garden.

 The defining factor in this equation is not (f) or infinity but 0. People have often asked me why does God seem so far, well we now know that He wasn’t as far as He once was, in the old testament times but we know that we are going to be closer. In the beginning (Pre-fall of man) it was almost like we did not have to do anything to seek God, it was meant to be a smooth sailing and an easy ride but along the way, man fell, Adam sinned and things changed in our working relationship.

 You will agree with me that in a relationship between two people, each party has to put in an effort to make sure that the relationship is balanced and the working relationship is fair. The equation above can be redefined as;

 0= (f)/infinity

 where (f)=action of man

infinity=God’s action.

0= absolutely nothing, because this was the pre-arranged agreement by God.

When man fell the terms of zero (0) had to change and then to access God zero (0) changed from absolutely nothing to something which God could tolerate hence the ten commandments and the laws. From the equation above infinity cannot change and (f) cannot change the only thing that could change in that equation is zero which is absolutely nothing (God is who He is and Man has been made to be who He is Hebrews 13:8 and Genesis 1:26). However, man’s action and God’s action will determine how to keep the agreed or tolerable level of what 0 might be.  Nothing had to be re-defined so as the relationship between God and man stood. What do I mean well if the denominator is 0.01*10-10000000000000000000000000000000000000000 we will say that is infinitely small so what changed was the basis as with zero was defined. Therefore, man had to do the work.

 In the old testament or covenant, it was man doing the action to keep zero at a tolerable level. How do I mean? For you to get very close to zero in the equation above you have to increase God’s actions, reduce human actions, increase Gods actions and finally reduce God’s action.  Out of these four actions, there are two possibilities at a time as one is dependent on another, and these two possibilities form the basis of the new and old testament. Where in the old testament it was man’s action that sustained the equation closer to absolute zero, in the new testament it was God’s action. For God to work with man, man had to do a lot in the old testament but now God has now done a lot more so as we don’t have to do much to keep our working relationship intact.

 Friends of mine find it hard to believe that all will have to do is confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your that God raised Jesus from the dead you will be saved (Romans 10:9), why is it so easy they ask. That’s because we were already saved more than 2000 years ago, the work has already been done, what it is now is a call to salvation. In the old testament we had a religion (Man Seeking God) but now we have Christianity (God seeking man). So should we forget the laws since the relationship we have now is new, the answer is in

Romans 6:1-4.

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

 Faith- Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen.

Faith is hoping for something when you have not seen anything

Faith is something without nothing

 Faith is something without nothing, that’s our equation! Therefore, anything I hope without seeing I see the hand of God in it.  Let us look at the equation again

 Infinity =(f)/0

 No wonder Jesus said even if you have faith as small as a mustard seed you can say to this mountain be that removed and cast into the sea. Faith can be sized, just like you can play around with the zero (0) in this equation.

Love is giving infinitely everything to someone. Love is having something but giving everything in order to get nothing. Love can be represented by;

(f)-infinity= -infinity

 0= infinity-infinity (Though mathematically undefined)

 Linking in all

 God is Love (1 John 4:8) ,  He is the only one who could have fulfilled dying for man to get absolutely nothing in return, say we put something in the equation then we will get 0 but then that zero will not be absolute. It takes infinity subtracted from infinity to get absolutely nothing, if the terms of infinity are the same. John 3:16,

 For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son – Love

 that whoever believes in Him – The New Covenant

shall not perish but have eternal life – The Promise because something put in infinity yields infinity. (John15:4)

It was in this absolute love that He had to give his only son to make sure that the relationship between His creation and Himself returns to normalcy. If eternity is our biggest desire then God should be since you cannot take Him away from eternity because He is the Eternity. There are so many more things you can relate with to God, not just mathematics, you can see Him in everything. Shalom!

Side Note Answering Questions from Various Chapters.

A lot of people asked me why infinity-infinity= 0. Remember I spoke about the first equation which I used in illustrating the old and new testaments. If I say, f/0 =infinity and then I bring that same equation down again f/0 =infinity. Also, assuming the terms of 0 are the same, if these two are subtracted from themselves, then the final result will be zero. I believe this clarifies the common question. God bless!
