I got sent this a few days ago, it is a message from a non-christian to a christian. The non christian said, “The doctrines and teachings of christianity are fine, they don’t just live it. So why should I become one? ” The non-christian emphasised by saying there is no oneness in christianity. When one fails or falls instead of helping the person come back on his feet, they walk away and judge the person. There have never been a time other than now for us to wake up as christians and understand the oneness of Christ, the oneness of Christ message of Love. Being a christian is never easy, you are in constant battle with principalities and power, rulers of darkness of this world, spiritual wickedness and so on according to Ephesians 6:12. We know some of our brethren are not winning this war, but we have to rally together in prayer, in the oneness of the love of Christ and help them out. Christians, let us all come together under the umbrella of Love, which we portray as children of the most high God, through the spirit of His son which He has put in our hearts to bear fruits of eternal love. Galatians 4:6 says,
“And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of His son into our hearts, prompting us to call him Abba Father.” John 15:5 says; “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” In John 14:17-18, we are reminded of the Spirit of truth, “ the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” In John 14 when Jesus was speaking to His disciples, He promised them of the Holy Spirit, He said something remarkable, He said, that the Holy Spirit lives with them, why? Because He is God and the Holy Spirit was with Him and in Him, then He said He will be in you. In John 15:5, Jesus said that if His disciples remain in Him then they will bear fruits, was He talking of the Holy Spirit or was He talking about His words, remember He is the Word. The answer is found in the chapter before and in verse 26, which says, “But the Advocate the Holy Spirit which the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” Therefore, in understanding the word of God one needs the Holy Spirit. It is no wonder that in Galatians 5:22-23 we are told, there are fruits of the Holy Spirit and by the same Holy Spirit we can call God Abba Father. Therefore, the only way of remaining in Him is to remain in His word, but we need the Holy Spirit to teach us the word of God so that we can bear fruits. In Matthew 13:18-23 we are reminded that if we do not understand the word of God we cannot be fruitful (Matthew 13:22).
In the first paragraph a link was drawn between the role of the Son and the Spirit in our sonship, as well as talking about how we can bear fruits by the Holy Spirit. There is a strong link between sonship and the fruits we bear. Every son takes the last name of His father. The names of God, we have today except maybe YAHWEH are all attributes and nature of God. It is through the Holy Spirit that we can share the last name of our father. It is interesting that in the world we live in today we use a tree to describe a family. We call it, “family tree” Jesus went ahead describing His family to us in John 15. Certain attributes and traits are particular to people from certain countries, race or family. The same can be said about the family of Christ, the particular attributes that we share in Christ are the fruits that we bear, what are our characteristics? Nobody plants a grape fruit and expects an orange, the same thing with our family tree, in our Christ family, the fruits which we bear are meant to be in line with our family. These fruits are listed in Gal 5:22-23, these fruits are, Joy, Peace, Forbearance, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and self-control and Love. These Fruits have been displayed by the son and the son said he only does what he sees the father do. He displayed love by dying for us (John 15:9-13), He displayed Joy at the prospect of bringing many to glory Hebrews 2:10, Hebrews 12:2, Jesus is called the prince of Peace in Isaiah 9:6. God is Love 1 John 4:8 and in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, we are reminded of what Love is, I look at this personally as love being the only fruit of the spirit because if you look at the definition of Love from 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, the remaining fruit of the Spirit is found in there. It is through the fruits which you bear that a seed could be laid in the hearts of others to actually get to be a branch in the Family tree of our God. Your fruit of Love which comes first by accepting to be children (to be born again), then constantly being watered by the word of God and then you can grow to start bearing fruits forever (Ephesians 4:14-16).
Even after being sons, sonship can be lost, you are a son when you have become a branch, but you can be dis-owned if you do not bear fruits of love (John 15:2), but when we bear the fruits of love we are re-planted by the Father himself in the life of others to grow in the same way with the Son.
It is very interesting, the role of the Trinity in actually helping us in getting to the level of sonship, being in Christ makes you a son by blood and legally. It is no coincidence that in the world we live in today that even though you are the biological father of a child, you still have to be a legal father. The Blood of Christ proves our “biological sonship” and our legal sonship is confirmed by the new covenant. It is truly amazing, we serve a living God.
We are christians because we are children of God, connected to the Father through the son, belonging to the family of Christ, joined as branches to the vine of the Son, to bear the fruit of Love. Let the fruit of our christianity be shown in our daily lives so that we can be replanted in the vineyard of Jehovah, to grow again as branches, emanating from the vine of Christ, who has shown us the greatest love. Be humble enough to let that love flow through you as a branch, for a branch who says I can do it on my own withers and dies. When we let the love of God flow through us, we bear much good fruit. The christian process is simply, allowing yourself to be replanted infinite times in the vineyard of God to bear fruits of love infinite times. Matthew 5:16 says, “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” The Father is the pruner, He is the one that carries you to the next level, He is the one who decides the time when there is need for a change of level. Therefore, glorification comes after the fruit of love, has been nourished by the word of God (the Son), that is when your replanting takes place. Shalom!
